Analysing Trust within a Team  

A high level of trust leads to a team climate that is largely free of defensiveness, manipulative strategy and communication difficulties. One where members willingly share information about themselves and their work. During this session a nomination form is used by the delegates in order to surface the behaviours and characteristics of the team members.

Assertiveness

Delegates will be able to distinguish between Submissive, Aggressive and Assertive behaviours; explore the advantages of being assertive; review personal assertiveness in situations and practice acting in an assertive manner.

Behavioural Training

There are a number of modules that fall under this heading. Discussion with Training department will help to identify the most appropriate for individual/group requirement.

Brainstorming

Discusses what brainstorming is and how to use the techniques as well as sharing some other techniques such as dialectic decision making.

Building a Climate of Trust

This module is design to assist you in creating a trusting workplace environment. It is useful to managers of teams, managers of managers working in different disciplines across a business, and members of teams who want to get the best out of their performance.

You will be able to:

  • recognise the leaders role in developing a climate of trust.
  • identify negative assumptions and the impact these have on the behaviours of employees.
  • identify the steps involved in the Cycle of Mistrust.
  • develop strategies to build trust in the workplace.
  • make a difference to the way  your group works “together”.

Change Management

Participants will learn how to:

  • Define change
  • Understand the effect on the business and people.
  • Understand how to recognise this effect.
  • What we can do about it.
  • Understand ‘Driving’ and ‘Restraining’ forces.
  • Identify the stages of Transition.

Communication (verbal)

Illustrates different approaches towards communication. Develops awareness of factors that affect communication with others. Helps develop an understanding of and procedure for effective communication.

Conducting Appraisals

This course is for Managers who conduct appraisals. It explores the appraisal review, including looking at benefits of appraisals, the skills required to deliver an effective appraisal and the current system/documentation.

Conflict Management

To encourage delegates to look at how they handle conflict and consider how they might approach confrontational situations to achieve positive results. The module illustrates various approaches to managing conflict and the ways in which these approaches affect the process of resolving a problem.

Continuous Improvement

This module is used in order to encourage delegates to use continuous improvement methods as the norm. Four tasks are given to each of four teams and all teams complete all tasks at the same time attempting to improve on the previous teams efforts.

Continuous Improvement – Tools and Techniques

This course is for any one involved in Small Group Improvement activities. It covers the plan, do, check, act cycle and tools and techniques such as facilitation, brainstorming, pareto charts and cause & effect diagrams.

Continuous Process Improvement

When we engage in process improvement, we seek to learn what causes things to happen and then use this knowledge to:

  • Reduce variation
  • Remove activities that have no value to the organisation
  • Improve customer satisfaction
  • This module takes you through the steps which will enable you to improve your processes whatever they may be in whatever function you work in.

Deaf Awareness

Course covers:

  • Understand Deafness and how attitudes to Deafness affect communication.
  • What methods of communication are used or preferred by Deaf colleagues.
  • Identify differences between Sign Language and spoken language.
  • Getting the attention of a Deaf person or people.
  • Where you should be in relation to the Deaf person/people when communicating with them.
  • Interrupting (politely).

Decision Making

In order to outperform our competitors, we must make better decisions, make them faster, and implement them more effectively.
Do you find it easy to make decisions? Do you have trouble knowing who should be involved in the decision making process? If you are struggling with this then this session will help by clarifying the steps towards making good decisions.

Delegation

This course module will:

  • Establish the nature of delegation and the principles of effective delegation.
  • Explore the problems involved in delegating effectively.
  • Consider good practice in relation to delegation.
  • Plan a specific delegation activity for on-the-job implementation.

Development Planning

This session is for those wishing to have/write a personal development plan and perhaps not knowing how to go about it. In this module you will discuss and create a Personal Vision; write a Personal Vision Statement; look at setting compelling goals and write your Development Plan.

Disability Awareness

This course module introduces the principles of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and gives outline information about its provision.

Disability Etiquette

The key note of good relationships is respect for other people. This includes a respect for their individuality. It is difficult to learn what to do in general, to judge when help is needed and to give it in a way that is both effective and sensitive. This module is to help with all of those awkward situations that can arise when we come face to face with someone who is ‘different’ from us. It deals with making assumptions about others and using the right or wrong words.

Effective Speaking

To help those who want to project themselves well or better in a public speaking format.

English Grammar- the basics

This course module will clarify English grammar categories with the aim of enabling more confident use of the written word or message. It will cover punctuation in its basic form in order to achieve a better understanding and more confident use.

Facilitation

Delegates will learn what Facilitation is have a clear definition of the role of a facilitator and understand the differences between Facilitation and Training.

Giving & Receiving Feedback

This course module is designed for use by a team of people. It allows the members of a team to compare their perceptions of how the team sees them with actual feedback obtained from the team. To legitimise giving negative feedback within the team. To develop the team members skills in giving and receiving negative feedback.

Harassment & Bullying for Managers

Course covers:

  • Definitions of what is considered to be harassment/bullying.
  • Employee complaints/grievances- how should this be dealt with.
  • Recognising harassment & bullying.
  • What can you do to help?
  • What should you do to help?

Harassment & Bullying for Employees

Everyone should be treated with dignity and respect at work. Bullying & harassment of any kind are in no-ones interest and should not be tolerated in the workplace, but if you are being bullied or harassed it can be difficult to know what to do about it.

This module:

  • Gives employees basic information about bullying & harassment.
  • Summarises the responsibilities of the employer.
  • Outlines some of the options open to you.
  • Points you to sources of further information and advice.

Interviewing Techniques

If you have to interview people then this is the course for you. It looks at criteria based interviewing techniques, questioning using the CAR (circumstances-action-result) method, putting the interviewee at ease. Also looks at what to do prior to, during and after interviewing.

Leadership

Areas covered in this training will be broken into segments and the specific categories dealt with are:

  • Why Leadership?
  • Who can be a Leader?
  • What do Leaders do?
  • Characteristics & Qualities.
  • Management Vs Leadership.
  • Personal motivation.
  • Self Imposed Doubt.
  • Motivating your Team.
  • Vision and Values.

Mentoring

Mentoring is a very important skill and crucial in the development of employees. It can be used across all levels of a business regardless of the roles involved and does not take a huge time commitment to be effective. If you want to develop your staff and see your business grow as a consequence then you need to seriously look at mentoring

This module explains:

  • What mentoring is.
  • Who is mentored?
  • What do they need?
  • What makes a good mentor – characteristics and qualities?
  • Benefits to be gained from the mentoring process.
  • How it is done?
  • Involvement of key stakeholders.
  • Mentoring relationships and learning.
  • Adults as learners.
  • How to put a mentoring agreement together.

Networking

This session encourages delegates to identify ways of creating and growing informal communication networks. 

Non-verbal Communication (Part 1)

The purpose of this activity is to make delegates aware of the non-verbal (body language) messages they are constantly sending and receiving, and to help to understand the problems that can arise if the verbal and non-verbal messages given do not support each other. 

Non Verbal Communication (Part 2)

This course module is for people who have attended the 'Non-Verbal Communication' module. It covers the exploration of the different forms of body language, the difference body language can make in business, how to use body language to enhance your confidence or credibility and to explore the signs of deception using body language clues.

Objective/Goal Setting

Specifying performance goals is an essential of effective management. For example, the success of annual performance reviews depends on the statement of goals for the employee. The purpose of this session is: To specify work-related goals at the right level of challenge, using the right choice of language.

People Problems at work

Being able to deal effectively and appropriately with people and their problems is an essential component in every manager’s kitbag of management skills. However, unlike task based problems, people based problems are not as easy to define or quantify. There are few tangible factors. Instead there are intangibles like emotions, feelings, values and perceptions. All of these involve uncertainty and unpredictability. This module will, through role play, enable you to test, practice and develop your skills for dealing with people.

Presentation Techniques

To learn the tools that will equip you with the skills to prepare and deliver presentations that are: well organised, dynamic and motivational. This module is broken into two specific areas: preparing an effective presentation and delivering the presentation.

Performance Management 

This course is for all employees and covers the purpose of an appraisal, the benefits, the preparation, how to get the most from your appraisal and the current system/documentation. 

Project Management

This course module is designed as an entry level course to project management. It requires no previous knowledge of project management and can be applied to any area of business where projects are undertaken. The course lasts 4 hours and includes a group exercise to allow participants to put into practice what they have learned.

Topics covered include:

  • terms and definitions
  • how to initiate a project
  • planning & risk management
  • project evaluation techniques, and
  • project completion & closure.

It is suitable for anyone working as part of a project team who is either new to project management or would like to learn more about project management tools & techniques.

Running Effective Meetings

Gain a reputation for holding decisive, effective meetings by using some simple tools and techniques. Areas covered include: prior planning, during the meeting, problems & how to handle them.

Sign Language

For those people who work with Deaf colleagues or who want to learn to sign as an interest. There are a number of modules that work from a basic level (no previous experience) to an advanced level (with basic experience). The basic module will give you approx. 100 words/phrases. The advanced module will give you approx. 600 words/phrases.

Teamwork Training

There are many teamwork modules available for use. Each deals with different yet specific areas. Advice on which would be the best for your needs is available from the Training department upon request and discussion of desired outcomes.

Time Management

Do you lack time? Are you often overloaded, irritable? Do you feel trapped by time passing too quickly? This session will share some techniques with delegates that will enable them to be up to date, work faster and more efficiently and have more time for leisure activities.

Train the Trainer

A two-hour refresher course for those who are signed to Level 3 and are training people on line. This course will provide an overview of techniques and methods to help to become a more confident trainer. The resources given can be used for ongoing training and training plans.

Transactional Analysis

The purpose of this activity is to enable participants to recognise the various ego states, in themselves and others, and to understand how they affect the way in which we handle difficult situations.

Understanding and Managing Stress

This session helps to understand what stress is. Explores the effects that stress may have on us and suggests ways to help manage stress.

Values Clarification

This course module provides opportunities for the delegates to practice identifying and clarifying values. Also to develop their awareness of some of the factors that affect their own value judgements as well as those of their fellow delegate/team members. Also demonstrated are how values affect relationships as well as personal and team decisions.
